Earlier this month we asked Caledonian Sleeper about a possible resumption of the carriage of day passengers on internal Scottish legs of the sleeper as was the case pre-covid, in particular on the West Highland Line where full journey’s were possible in both directions in the Sleeper’s seated coach between Fort William and Glasgow Queen Street (and intermediate stations).

Unfortunately the reply wasn’t what we’d hoped for:

While the timings meant the internal passenger loadings were never going to be huge, at an otherwise quiet time of year that surely is more reason to allow these journey’s once more because as things stand it represents a loss of 1/4 of the daily passenger train service to / from Fort William. This loss is particularly felt for outdoor activities where the sleeper allowed some early starts and late finishes from remote stations, particularly Corrour where there is no alternative to rail for using it as a start point.
