The Met Office’s amber extreme heat warning has been extended further North and East, covering the entire borders area and up the Eastern side of Scotland, including Edinburgh, Fife, Perth and Dundee - the details can be read at www.metoffice.gov.uk until the warning period expires:
Wonder what the potential disruption to travel maybe within Scotland, obviously there is going to be significant issues cross border with the ECML shut south of York on Tuesday!
It’s also notable that some model runs have show a Foehn effect to really warm up parts of Moray and possibly Highland. At 3pm it was 23ºc at Inverness Airport, which notably is around 14ºc warmer than the 850hpa temperatures (approximately 5000ft given current atmospheric conditions). Some model runs are getting the 850hpa temperature up to 19 to 21ºc on Tuesday early afternoon, depending how quickly the light South to SE flow gets cut off as fresher air tries to push in from the West, we could see exceptionally high temperatures in parts of Highland, Moray and Aberdeenshire too. One too watch!
